Funded by The Law Foundation of Ontario, BGC Durham is pleased to announce that beginning April 3rd, we will have a Youth Court Access Worker (YCAW) available to assist young people involved in the justice system. The Youth Court Access Worker will support young people ages 12-24 in accessing and navigating court processes.
What will the Youth Court Access Worker do?
Provide in-person support to youth who are involved with the Youth Justice Court
Connect youth to services that will assist them in streamlining the court process
Facilitate and support youth in the completion of their
intervention/program as directed by the Ontario Court of Justice
Provide support and facilitate brokerage programs and services for youth and their families
Provide and or facilitate case management in consultation with the criminal justice system (counsel, legal aid etc.).
What can the Youth Court Access Worker help with?
Legal Aid applications
Obtaining disclosure
Finger Printing
Obtaining Counsel
Connecting with Duty Counsel
Bail Hearings
Provide support at court (criminal, family etc.)
Assist youth in connecting with services and supports that are part of their disposition.
The overall Youth Court Access strategy is to provide community based assistance and support to young people in accessing and navigating the justice system.
